Porcelain Tile

Hello, neighbor

Porcelain tile — the toughest floor money can buy

The toughest floor money can buy — wood-look, stone-look, and large-format porcelain installed across Greater Charlotte for life.

Why porcelain outperforms standard ceramic

Porcelain tile is fired at a higher temperature from denser clay than standard ceramic, which leaves it less than 0.5% porous — effectively waterproof — and harder than granite, rated for commercial-grade traffic. The Flooring House installs porcelain tile in homes and businesses across Greater Charlotte, and it’s what we’d choose for our own homes too.

Modern porcelain comes in wood-look planks, marble-look slabs, concrete-look squares, and textured outdoor-rated finishes, so you get the look of nearly any natural material without the upkeep.

Why porcelain outperforms standard ceramic

Where porcelain is the safest specification

Porcelain handles any high-use, wet, or high-value space with confidence. It shrugs off freeze-thaw cycles, won’t fade in sunlight, and takes whatever a family or pet can throw at it.

  • Wood-look porcelain planks — the look of hardwood with none of the water-damage risk
  • Large-format slabs (24x48, 32x32) — fewer grout lines, a modern open feel
  • Marble-look porcelain — the look of natural stone without a sealing schedule
  • Outdoor patios and pool decks — freeze-thaw rated, with slip-resistant finishes available
  • Commercial spaces — meets PEI Class 4-5 abrasion ratings for retail and restaurants

Installed with the right tools for the material

Porcelain demands precision — large-format and plank tiles show even a 1/8" dip in the subfloor. We laser-level every floor, use leveling clips on every install, and back-butter every plank for full mortar coverage.

We also run the right cutting tools. Porcelain dulls a standard wet saw blade in minutes, so we use rim-segmented diamond blades and a porcelain-rated grinder wheel for clean cuts at every outlet and corner. Want the same look without the cutting complexity? Take a look at our luxury vinyl tile alternative.

Porcelain Tile - frequently asked questions

Yes — it’s denser, less porous, and harder. For floors, wet areas, and any high-traffic space, porcelain is worth the modest price step up from ceramic.

Modern wood-look porcelain is remarkably convincing, especially in 8"+ plank widths with a textured surface — most guests can’t tell unless they’re on their hands and knees.

Porcelain itself is extremely hard, but it can crack if the subfloor flexes underneath it. That’s why we use uncoupling membranes on plywood subfloors and large-format installs.

It depends on the finish. We recommend matte or textured finishes for bathrooms, entries, and outdoor use, and reserve polished porcelain for dry rooms only.

Honest, no-pressure advice Ryan spent years on the manufacturer side and on install crews before opening his own doors — he’d rather tell you the truth about a product than talk you into one you don’t need.

A small crew that answers the phone You’re working directly with the family that owns the business, not a call center. Ryan personally checks in after the crew wraps up to make sure the job was done right.

The Flooring House is family-owned and run by Ryan Davis, who came up as a Mohawk Flooring sales rep before working install crews across the country. We bring real samples to your home for a free, no-pressure estimate instead of asking you to drive to a showroom — and Ryan personally stands behind every job.
It’s how a small, family-run business earns its reputation. We’re proud of our 5.0-star rating on Google, and customers consistently mention Ryan following up personally after the install to make sure everything’s right — that’s not an accident, it’s how we operate on every project.
Yes — carpet, solid and engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, ceramic and porcelain tile, and laminate, for both residential and commercial spaces. We also handle furniture removal and return, on-site area-rug customization, and stair-runner surging and binding.
If you ever notice an issue with your flooring, document it and reach out right away. Ryan and the crew will come take a look and make sure your floor is restored to the condition it should be in — we don’t consider a job finished until you’re happy with it.
