Greater Charlotte's most-requested flooring right now

Luxury vinyl plank has become the top-selling flooring category in North America, and it’s easy to see why once you’ve felt one. It’s 100% waterproof, scratch-resistant, and stands up to kids and pets while looking indistinguishable from hardwood underfoot — usually at roughly half the installed cost of the real thing.

The Flooring House stocks LVP from Shaw, Mohawk, COREtec, and Karndean, including the rigid-core SPC and WPC lines that designers spec on higher-end renovations — all shown to you in your own home.

How to actually compare two LVP options

Three numbers tell you almost everything about an LVP product: wear layer, core construction, and total thickness. We’ll walk through what they mean during your free consultation.

  • Wear layer 12-20 mil — light residential traffic, good for rentals or bedrooms
  • Wear layer 22 mil — whole-home residential, our most-requested spec
  • Wear layer 28-30 mil — heavy residential and commercial use
  • SPC core (stone polymer composite) — rigid, won’t telegraph subfloor imperfections
  • WPC core (wood polymer composite) — softer and warmer underfoot
  • Total thickness 5mm-8mm — thicker generally means quieter and more forgiving

Click-lock or glue-down?

Click-lock LVP floats over the subfloor, installs quickly, and is simple to swap out plank by plank. Glue-down LVP feels more solid and is quieter underfoot, which makes it the better choice for very large open rooms and high-traffic commercial floors. We’ll recommend the right method for your subfloor and room layout — we install both.

The subfloor is where a good LVP job is won or lost

We level every dip, fill every low spot, and use the manufacturer-required underlayment before a plank ever hits the floor. Our crews also handle stair nosings (custom-milled to match, see our vinyl stairs page), baseboard removal and reset, and full disposal of your existing flooring.

Luxury Vinyl Plank - frequently asked questions

Yes — LVP is one of the best basement flooring choices around. It’s waterproof, handles concrete subfloors without acclimation trouble, and feels far warmer underfoot than tile.

The top wear layer resists scratching well, but it’s not indestructible — dog claws and furniture dragged across it can mark cheaper LVP. We recommend a 20+ mil wear layer for households with larger dogs.

Quality LVP with a 22+ mil wear layer typically lasts 20-25 years in a normal home, and commercial-rated LVP can go 25-30 years.

The brands we carry are FloorScore certified for indoor air quality and CARB Phase II compliant for formaldehyde, so it’s safe to install in nurseries and homes with sensitivities.

Honest, no-pressure advice Ryan spent years on the manufacturer side and on install crews before opening his own doors — he’d rather tell you the truth about a product than talk you into one you don’t need.

A small crew that answers the phone You’re working directly with the family that owns the business, not a call center. Ryan personally checks in after the crew wraps up to make sure the job was done right.

The Flooring House is family-owned and run by Ryan Davis, who came up as a Mohawk Flooring sales rep before working install crews across the country. We bring real samples to your home for a free, no-pressure estimate instead of asking you to drive to a showroom — and Ryan personally stands behind every job.
It’s how a small, family-run business earns its reputation. We’re proud of our 5.0-star rating on Google, and customers consistently mention Ryan following up personally after the install to make sure everything’s right — that’s not an accident, it’s how we operate on every project.
Yes — carpet, solid and engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, ceramic and porcelain tile, and laminate, for both residential and commercial spaces. We also handle furniture removal and return, on-site area-rug customization, and stair-runner surging and binding.
If you ever notice an issue with your flooring, document it and reach out right away. Ryan and the crew will come take a look and make sure your floor is restored to the condition it should be in — we don’t consider a job finished until you’re happy with it.
