Real wood, chosen at your kitchen table

Ryan Davis got his start as a Mohawk sales rep, trained at Mohawk University in Dalton, Georgia, before spending years working residential, commercial, and builder flooring jobs across the country. He built The Flooring House to bring that same experience directly to homes across Greater Charlotte — solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and custom parquet from Bruce, Kährs, Shaw, and Armstrong, shown to you in your own living room instead of a big-box aisle.

Because we order directly from the mills, you get manufacturer pricing without the retail markup, and our own crew handles every step in-house: removal, subfloor leveling, installation, staining, and finishing.

Solid or engineered — how to decide

Both are genuine wood. The right one comes down to your subfloor and your home’s construction — and around here, that means we’re often weighing a slab-on-grade build in Waxhaw or Indian Land against an older crawl-space home in York or Clover.

  • Solid hardwood — 3/4" of 100% wood, nailed down, refinishable 5-7 times over its life. Best over plywood subfloors, above grade.
  • Engineered hardwood — a real wood top layer bonded to a stable plywood core that resists our humid Piedmont summers. Best over concrete slabs, below grade, or with radiant heat.
  • Wide planks (5"-7") — a modern look available in either construction.
  • Parquet — chevron, herringbone, and custom inlay patterns in solid or engineered wood.

Species and stain colors

Red and white oak make up most of what we install — durable, easy to stain, and they age well. Maple gives a cleaner, more uniform grain; hickory is the hardest domestic species and holds up well in busy households; walnut brings a richer, darker tone for more formal rooms.

We bring physical sample boards to your home so you can see stain color on the actual wood, under your own lighting — not a printed swatch.

Installation done right, one crew

We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on your subfloor, and every job includes moisture testing, baseboard removal and reset, and full haul-away of the old floor. We’ll also move and return your furniture as part of the job.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions

Most whole-home installs run 2 to 4 days, depending on square footage and layout.

Engineered hardwood does well in kitchens and below-grade basements because the plywood core stays stable through humidity swings. We generally don’t recommend solid hardwood in either spot.

A well-maintained solid hardwood floor can last 80-100 years and be refinished 5-7 times along the way. Engineered hardwood typically lasts 30-50 years with 1-2 refinishes.

We bring sample boards in your species and color so we can match within a shade or two. If you want a seamless blend, we can refinish the existing floor at the same time so the whole space reads as one.

Why homeowners choose us

We bring the showroom to you No trip to a big-box store under fluorescent lighting. We load real samples into the truck and bring them to your kitchen table, so you see exactly how a floor will look in your own home before you commit.

Honest, no-pressure advice Ryan spent years on the manufacturer side and on install crews before opening his own doors — he’d rather tell you the truth about a product than talk you into one you don’t need.

A small crew that answers the phone You’re working directly with the family that owns the business, not a call center. Ryan personally checks in after the crew wraps up to make sure the job was done right.

The Flooring House is family-owned and run by Ryan Davis, who came up as a Mohawk Flooring sales rep before working install crews across the country. We bring real samples to your home for a free, no-pressure estimate instead of asking you to drive to a showroom — and Ryan personally stands behind every job.
It’s how a small, family-run business earns its reputation. We’re proud of our 5.0-star rating on Google, and customers consistently mention Ryan following up personally after the install to make sure everything’s right — that’s not an accident, it’s how we operate on every project.
Yes — carpet, solid and engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, ceramic and porcelain tile, and laminate, for both residential and commercial spaces. We also handle furniture removal and return, on-site area-rug customization, and stair-runner surging and binding.
If you ever notice an issue with your flooring, document it and reach out right away. Ryan and the crew will come take a look and make sure your floor is restored to the condition it should be in — we don’t consider a job finished until you’re happy with it.
