The value play for the busiest surface in the house

Laminate stairs give you a hardwood look without the hardwood price, and on the surface your family uses the most, that’s a smart trade. The Flooring House installs AC4 and AC5 laminate stair systems across Greater Charlotte with matching nosings and finish trim that tie the staircase into the laminate floor it leads to.

Because laminate’s wear layer is built to take abuse, it’s a particularly good fit for rentals, basement stairs, and houses with kids or dogs.

Not every plank belongs on a staircase

We only quote AC4 or AC5 products on stairs, because anything lighter-duty shows wear at the nosing within a year. We also lean toward 12mm thicknesses where possible — a thicker board feels more solid underfoot and takes the matching nosing more cleanly.

  • AC4 and AC5 wear-rated planks only
  • 12mm thickness recommended for stairs
  • Factory-matched stair nosings included
  • Padded underlay reduces noise on each step

How we keep the install clean and quiet

Laminate floats in the main room, but on stairs it needs to be glued and mechanically fastened. We use construction adhesive plus hidden brad nails behind the nosing on every tread, glue the riser caps in place, and finish with color-matched caulk so there’s no visible gap. Done right, a laminate staircase is quiet, scratch-resistant, and hard to tell from real hardwood at a glance — see our hardwood stairs page if you’re weighing both options.

Laminate Stairs - frequently asked questions

AC4 and AC5 laminates are built for high-traffic commercial use, so on a residential staircase they routinely outlast carpet and hold up right alongside hardwood.

Yes — we use the same plank for both. The only difference is the matching nosing on the front edge of each stair, sourced from the same manufacturer so the color and grain line up exactly.

They have similar slip resistance to satin-finished hardwood. We can add discreet anti-slip tape under each nosing if you have older family members or active pets in the house.

Yes. We remove any carpet first, level the treads if needed, and install directly on top — no need to tear out the existing staircase.

Why homeowners choose us

We bring the showroom to you No trip to a big-box store under fluorescent lighting. We load real samples into the truck and bring them to your kitchen table, so you see exactly how a floor will look in your own home before you commit.

Honest, no-pressure advice Ryan spent years on the manufacturer side and on install crews before opening his own doors — he’d rather tell you the truth about a product than talk you into one you don’t need.

A small crew that answers the phone You’re working directly with the family that owns the business, not a call center. Ryan personally checks in after the crew wraps up to make sure the job was done right.

Built for local homes From older homes near the state line to new builds in Fort Mill and Indian Land, we know the housing stock in this area and recommend flooring that actually holds up here.

The Flooring House is family-owned and run by Ryan Davis, who came up as a Mohawk Flooring sales rep before working install crews across the country. We bring real samples to your home for a free, no-pressure estimate instead of asking you to drive to a showroom — and Ryan personally stands behind every job.
It’s how a small, family-run business earns its reputation. We’re proud of our 5.0-star rating on Google, and customers consistently mention Ryan following up personally after the install to make sure everything’s right — that’s not an accident, it’s how we operate on every project.
Yes — carpet, solid and engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, ceramic and porcelain tile, and laminate, for both residential and commercial spaces. We also handle furniture removal and return, on-site area-rug customization, and stair-runner surging and binding.
If you ever notice an issue with your flooring, document it and reach out right away. Ryan and the crew will come take a look and make sure your floor is restored to the condition it should be in — we don’t consider a job finished until you’re happy with it.
