The step most projects underestimate

A new floor is only as good as what’s underneath it. The Flooring House handles every step before installation — old floor demolition, haul-away, dust control, moisture testing, and subfloor leveling — so your new floor lays flat, locks tight, and doesn’t squeak two years later.

We work on every flooring type: glue-down tile, nailed-down hardwood, floating laminate, sheet vinyl, and bonded carpet. We show up with the right gear — chipping hammers, ride-on scrapers, HEPA vacuums, self-leveler — and leave the space ready for the next crew, whether that’s us or someone else.

What’s included in every demo and prep job

We work to a fixed scope so there’s no negotiating mid-project.

  • Full removal of existing flooring (tile, hardwood, vinyl, carpet, laminate)
  • Old material haul-away and disposal
  • Subfloor inspection for rot, mold, and structural issues
  • Self-leveling compound to flatten high and low spots
  • A final sweep so the new-floor crew can start right away

Why dust control matters more than people expect

Old thinset, tile, and hardwood adhesives can carry silica, glue residue, and sometimes asbestos in homes built before 1990 — a real consideration in some of the older housing stock around York and Clover. We seal off work areas with plastic, run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, and wear proper PPE, which is standard on commercial demo but rare on a residential job. The result is a project you can live next to without scrubbing dust out of the kitchen for weeks.

Subfloor leveling — the step other installers skip

A subfloor out of level by more than 1/8" over 6 feet will cause LVP and laminate joints to fail within months, and tile over an uneven slab will crack. We level every job to manufacturer tolerances with self-leveling underlayment and patch soft spots before declaring the floor ready — the difference between a floor that lasts and one that gets pulled up again in three years.

Floor Demolition & Prep - frequently asked questions

Yes — haul-away and disposal is included in the demo price. You won’t see a single piece of old tile or carpet at the curb.

We use HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, plastic sheeting, and ground-source vacuums on chipping tools. Compared to a typical contractor demo, expect roughly 90% less dust in adjacent rooms.

We check during the estimate. If your subfloor is within manufacturer tolerance (typically 1/8" over 6 feet), no leveling is needed. If it’s not, we quote the leveling separately so you can see the exact extra cost.

Vinyl tile and mastic from before 1990 can sometimes contain asbestos. We pause the job, send a sample for testing, and bring in a licensed abatement contractor if it comes back positive, then resume prep once the area is cleared.

The Flooring House is family-owned and run by Ryan Davis, who came up as a Mohawk Flooring sales rep before working install crews across the country. We bring real samples to your home for a free, no-pressure estimate instead of asking you to drive to a showroom — and Ryan personally stands behind every job.
It’s how a small, family-run business earns its reputation. We’re proud of our 5.0-star rating on Google, and customers consistently mention Ryan following up personally after the install to make sure everything’s right — that’s not an accident, it’s how we operate on every project.
Yes — carpet, solid and engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, ceramic and porcelain tile, and laminate, for both residential and commercial spaces. We also handle furniture removal and return, on-site area-rug customization, and stair-runner surging and binding.
If you ever notice an issue with your flooring, document it and reach out right away. Ryan and the crew will come take a look and make sure your floor is restored to the condition it should be in — we don’t consider a job finished until you’re happy with it.
